Historical Perspective
On August 18, 1881, the Sisters of Providence established the first Catholic School in Lockport.
The school, first introduced as the academy at St. Dennis was dedicated to the Sacred Heart and
was know as Sacred Heart School until 1957 when the name was changed to St. Dennis School in honor
of the first resident pastor,
Rev. Dennis Ryan.
